East of Wall
East of Wall is a compelling drama that depicts the resilience of families living in the "New West".
Featuring strong performances from non-actors that are playing fictionalized versions of themselves - not too dissimilar from what Nomadlands did several years ago - this semi-biographical film is filled with raw and genuine emotions.
Unfortunately, those emotions get undercut by the incredibly slow pace and the surprisingly large cast. Whether they're based on real people or not, there are way too many characters in this film. Trying to keep track of each person, and trying to figure out everyone's relationship to one another, was quite an exhausting endeavor.
Thankfully, this film is also beautifully shot. So, while I do have some issues with the script and with pacing, I can't deny that this is a gorgeous movie to look at.
