Rick And Morty (S08E08)
“Nomortland”
When Jerry finds another version of himself in his kitchen, he realizes that other Jerrys have learned how to traverse the multiverse without Rick's help. There are cracks in the multiverse that other Jerrys have taken advantage of, which allow them to hop in and out of different timelines like a bunch of traveling nomads.
And, since I've always been a sucker for Jerry-centric episodes, I have to admit that I absolutely loved this one. Especially since Nomortland is probably the most Jerry-centric episode of the entire series so far.
But, as Jerry learns how to traverse the multiverse on his own, he also learns what makes him different from most other Jerrys: he has a family who genuinely loves him. They actually care about Jerry's wellbeing, and they worry about him when he's nowhere to be found. And that makes for a sweet and endearing little episode! One where we can see how much Jerry has grown since the first few seasons.
Jerry is a far more independent character now. When he gets lost in the multiverse, he has to use his own wit to get back home. And the ideas that he comes up with are genuinely clever. So I loved how much agency he has in this episode.
Plus, I absolutely loved how entertaining the story turned out to be. It was a lot of fun! And it sets up an interesting way for Jerry to have solo adventures in the future.
So, considering how much I enjoyed it, I would say that Nomortland is one of the best episodes of Rick and Morty Season 8. If you'e been disappointed in the past few episodes like I've been, Nomortland is definitely a strong return to form for this season. I just hope that the last two episodes will turn out to be as good as this one.
But I guess we'll see how the penultimate episode will actually turn out to be once it gets released on Sunday.
